“Love is a treasure for which
we can never pay. The only way
to keep it is to give it away.”
I was reading the book “The Ultimate Gift” (by Jim Stovall) recently, and I came across several quotes that made me contemplate life. And out of all the quotes, I decided to pick this one to use for this post today: “Anything good, honorable, and desirable in life is based on love. Anything bad or evil is simply life without the love involved. Love is a misused and overused term in our society. It is applied to any number of frivolous things and pursuits; but the love I am talking about in the gift of love is the goodness that comes only from God.”
Today, love is a piece of life the world is sorely missing. You don’t have to go very far to find hate and bitterness running the lives of even the most spiritual people.
As one who is a part of a generation that will soon take the wheel, I’d like to challenge those of you who are in the same boat as me to encourage and inspire and spread love around to those you are surrounded with. Everyday we have the power to let down or be a light. I know how hard it can be to be the latter, but it’s something to strive towards.
Everyday we have the power to be let down or to be a light.
Yahweh is love. He is the author of it. And He has shown His great love toward each one of us in the smallest and biggest ways. Every breath you take in right now is His gift and His expression of His love. That may not feel apparent in your life right now, but if you look back at your life, you’ll see His love abounding throughout the course of it.
Love is a great treasure. We’re constantly looking for it, yet it’s right there in front of us. The key to love is not in the receiving of it, it’s in the giving of it. We have all the love we need in the Messiah, and in that, we should find peace. It’s hard. It’s complicated at times, because we always want more. Still, His love is enough and it should be enough. If we’re to be set-apart, we should have a mindset that is different from what the world believes about love. And if that’s the case, we should be a walking, talking, expression of what love looks like.
The key to love is not in the receiving of it, it’s in the giving of it.
It is the greatest out of all commands. It is the greatest out of all the fruits of the spirit.
Let no man despise your youth;
but be an example to those who believe,
in word, in your way of life, in love,
in spirit, in faith, and in purity.
Dear fellow youth, show love. Even if you don’t feel like it—do it. Even if you feel as though no one cares or even loves you…show love. Even if hatred is so much easier, choose to love. If there’s one goal I want to have for the next year, it’s to love more. I hope it’s yours too.
